If you’re unfamiliar, Build is the biggest conference the software giant holds every year for developers who work on Windows and related technologies. On Monday, May 7, the conference will kick off with the first keynote, which will feature the appearance of Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella, and a number of Microsoft executives. This first keynote will start at 8:30am San Francisco time (New York: 11:30am / London: 4:30am / Berlin 5:30am / Tokyo: 12:30am (May 8) / Sydney 1:30am (May 8)), and during the presentation, you can expect several big announcements related to cloud computing, artificial intelligence, mixed reality, and a lot of coding for developers....

The HP Elite X3 is not just another Windows 10 smartphone, HP is going all in with hardware and design. The Elite X3 features a 6-inch Quad HD (2560 x 1440) pixel resolution AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 and anti-reflective coating. These three new computers feature Intel processors and far-field voice technology to improve interaction with Cortana. The new controller is virtually identical to the regular gamepad for Xbox One, but with a number of new features, such as hair trigger locks, paddles for precision driving in games, new directional pad for more accuracy, swappable components, thumbstick sensitivity curves. In addition, users can remap the gamepad buttons anyway they like. The Xbox Elite Wireless Controller will be available later this year for Xbox One and Windows 10 devices, but there isn’t any specific release date or pricing....

The feature aims to pause peripheral content, such as advertisements and animations built using Adobe Flash until, of course, the end-user explicitly clicks on it. Microsoft says that the new approach will help to reduce power consumption significantly on laptops, tablets, and other mobile devices. The new integration appears with version 4.6, which is currently available only to testers. If you’re a beta tester, after installing the newest release, the Cortana icon will appear in the home screen, and tapping it will launch the experience with an overlay popup. Then you can use your voice or onscreen keyboard to interact with Cortana, but currently there’s no access to the Notebook to manage lists or skills....

In today’s event the software giant announced that both tablets will be available on October 22nd, just four days after the release of Windows 8.1. Also in preparation to the release of Windows 8.1, Microsoft has issued a firmware update for Surface Pro, which needs to be applied prior updating to 8.1 on October 18th. Soon after the security hole was found, the software giant quickly made available a temporary workaround in a form of patch that they call “Fix it”. However, the security update released today should permanently close the door, for good, to this issue. The company reports that only a small number of users have been affected by the exploit, but acknowledges that if could potentially affect more users in the future....

It’s not clear, but the new $349 pricing could be permanent for the Xbox One console without the Kinect sensor. Microsoft mentions that the price is for U.S. consumers, but it does not mention if the permanent price drop will be available worldwide. The company also reveals that Xbox One was the best-selling console in the U.S. in November and December, outpacing Xbox 360 by fifty-percent at the same point on the life of the console....

Games The Games app for Windows 8 is being refreshed to include toast notifications support for Xbox Live messaging. Even though most of the improvements are internally, Microsoft has also made minors UI changes, by adding recently played games, user’s achievements, messages, and access to the Friends hub to the home screen.
