The update with the new dashboard is scheduled to roll out in November, and it seems that to prepare the software for its final release, Microsoft needs all the help it can get, as such it’s now opening the opt-in program for all participants of the Xbox One Preview Program. Recently Microsoft made available an emergency update for Windows 10, Windows 8.1, and Windows 7 devices to mitigate the Meltdown and Spectre security vulnerabilities found in many modern processors. However, a significant number of users immediately started experiencing a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) on devices with specific AMD processors. According to the company the unexpected problem is due to “some AMD chipsets do not conform to the documentation previously provided” to create the update, and as result it’s pausing the rollout temporarily....

However, the feature update has a small number of known issues, and as a result, the company isn’t making the feature update available to everyone immediately. Instead, it’s gradually rolling out the May 2020 Update to devices running Windows 10 version 1909 and 1903, which are known to be fully compatible first, and it’s placing a temporary block on devices that may not have a smooth upgrade experience. This isn’t a new approach, Microsoft has been implementing blocks on incompatible devices for a long time, but in the past, it’s been difficult to know whether your device is having problems with Windows Update or a temporary block was in place....

Office Online For Office Online, Microsoft is introducing the Cloud Storage Partner Program to help third party cloud services to plug into Office Online. This program will allow users to open, edit, and view documents on different storage services. The software giant also said that Box, Citrix, and Salesforce are already working to integrate their services with Office Online, and more services will join the program in the future. Under the new hardware policy, Microsoft no longer offers support for previous version of the OS on new processors. Starting with Intel’s 6th-generation Skylake and later processors will require Windows 10 to keep getting updates. However, select Skylake-based devices will continue to receive updates running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, but only until July 17, 2018. Older processors (prior to Skylake) running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 will continue to get updates until January 14, 2020, and January 10, 2023, respectively....

Focusing on Microsoft Edge, the new default web browser for Windows 10, the software giant reveals in its support lifecycle web page that only Internet Explorer 11 will continue to receive support starting January 12, 2016, on Windows 7, Windows 8.x, and Windows 10, which means the end of life for all other previous versions of the web browser. According to Microsoft, “Internet Explorer 11 is the last version of Internet Explorer, and will continue to receive security updates, compatibility fixes, and technical support” to improve security, performance, and backward compatibility for websites that don’t meet today’s modern web standards....
